Meet the haberman family
Brett grew up here in Clark County, tearing around on his bike through the fields and tree stands of Battle Ground that are now housing developments. Jessica was raised on a commercial fruit orchard in Central Washington that is still in production growing premium apple and cherries.
We both hoped to provide our children with the balance of freedom and responsibility that comes with a rural lifestyle. In 2018, we fell in love with and purchased the property. It was in a state of disrepair, so we set to work with renovations and were able to move to the farm in spring of 2019. There are still a lot of projects to accomplish but we have come a long way since then!
We can attest to chickens being gateway animals. It started with six laying hens providing eggs for our family table. That led to three retired horses and a trailer full of free goats. The goats have provided countless hours of entertainment as well as education.
Next, we hosted cows for a local beef producer that needed more pasture for grazing. When the break in the food supply chain occurred due to Covid, we decided it was time for us to start our own beef operation. After raising beef for a few seasons, we decided purchase four pigs and will be offering our first round of pork Fall 2022.
During the summer we host bees for a commercial beekeeper in exchange for the most delicious honey. Two barn cats help with pest control and are full of personality. A Great Pyrenees pup rounds out the animal count and will hopefully grow into a strong family and livestock guardian dog.
